Draft Outline

Monday 14 June

SESSION 1 - 09.00-12.30
The Clean Energy Paradigm: meeting the climate challenge together

EURELECTRIC has formulated a responsible yet realistic vision for a carbon-free electricity industry by 2050 and will require a visionary EU regulator to help facilitate this (interconnection, renewable incentives, CO2 pricing,...).

The objective is to spark a constructive discussion between EURELECTRIC and the new EU Commissioner about the industry's and his vision and the regulatory and industry requirements to get there. The discussion would be put in a different perspective by the experiences and vision of a 'challenger', i.e. a representative coming from a region that is taking on the same challenges but in a very different way or context (e.g. China or US). Progress made (or lack of it) at Copenhagen will be a key contextual element of the discussion.

SESSION 2 - 14.00-17.00
Reaching the Final Customer: from regional wholesale to seamless retail markets

Across Europe harmonization of Wholesale markets and TSO roles are ongoing. On DSO roles and Retail processes, more now needs to be done to establish an efficient market flowing from wholesale to retail and providing the final customers with choice, ease-of-use and competitive offers.

Smart grids will change the retail market and provide new opportunities for DSOs, retailers, new players and the consumer. The DSO will have an instrumental role in providing fair and non discriminatory network capacity, metering and, in close interaction with suppliers, smooth functioning processes for switching of supplier. Suppliers will compete amongst each other to offer a large range of contracts at competitive prices. As competition also brings increased interaction, and in order to ease the processes for the customers, the supplier will act as the sole contact point.

Tuesday 15 June

SESSION 3 - 09.00-12.00
RES: breaking the inertia

The idea would be to discuss what is needed to reach the 2020 RES target in the most cost-efficient way. The session should touch upon the expected technological development (on high level), the issue of market integration, grid development, balancing and regulatory issues, including permitting. What are the conditions under which the 2020 targets can be reached and the cost to society is the lowest possible?

EXECUTIVE CEO SESSION - 14.00-16.30
Building the New Energy World: smart, clean, secure

To provide a platform for CEOs to debate the state of the business focussing on three key priorities: CO2, security of supply, liberalization. CEOs would primarily talk about the innovation and transformation they need to bring to the industry to achieve the EU and EURELECTRIC targets around CO2 emissions, whilst satisfying other requirements such as shareholder return and security of supply.
